As grown-ups it is our own responsibility to ensure that our own needs are met. We have to do some compassionate, patient self-parenting. We are also wearing many hats and have lots on our minds and schedules. Making time for self-care easily gets crowded out, but here's a powerful truth-- we are creatures of habit. We do the same things and think the same thoughts over and over and we'll have habits whether we are conscious of them or not. The way to see to it that our own most fundamental needs are met is to deliberately create habits and rituals that make getting our needs met take as little conscious thought as possible.
